MY MEMORIESCharles Glenn Petersen1983 - Mississippi Years |

Mississippi State University (continued)We were given the use of a small home owned by the builder on the east side of town near the University. I had to stay in Oshkosh as Department Chairman through July. We moved most of our stuff to Mississippi in early July and Nancy stayed there while I returned to Wisconsin to finish my term. |

On August 2nd, I packed the rest of our stuff in our pop-up camper and Dodge Ramcharger, a forerunner of an SUV. I drove all day the following day and through the night and arrived in Starkville in the early morning of August 4th. I ate breakfast and went to bed for a few hours of sleep. I had no more than fallen asleep when the builder knocked on the door telling us they were pouring the slab for our house that morning. Rarely do homes in the south have basements, the high humidity makes it impossible to keep them dry. We drove out to the job site and watched the beginnings of our new life in Mississippi. |

In October, just 75 days later, we moved into our new home. We didn't move again for 29 years. |
